Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing
Today’s sightseeing itinerary encompasses UNESCO World Heritage Sites, categorized into Stupas, Temples, and Palaces. Your personalized sightseeing experience will be meticulously planned by our experienced city guide from Travel Max Guide.
Kathmandu Durbar Square
Located at a distance from your hotel, Kathmandu Durbar Square is a historical ceremonial site that once served as a royal palace where coronations took place. Today, it stands as a unique palace-museum, offering a glimpse into the royal lifestyle. Here, you’ll be surrounded by monuments, temples, and statues dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple)
Prepare yourself for a visit to Swayambhunath, a stupa steeped in history and perched at a significant altitude, with over 2,000 years of legacy. This is Nepal’s most revered Buddhist Stupa, adorned with the captivating visage of Lord Buddha on all sides. At its base, you’ll find stonework depicting the 5 Dhyani Buddhas – Vairocana, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, Amoghasiddhi, and Aksobhya, each representing the wisdom of Lord Buddha. Visitors flock to this site for its panoramic view of Kathmandu.
Pashupatinath
Pashupatinath, a temple as ancient as time itself, is entrusted to the care of Hindu Committees in Nepal, responsible for its upkeep, renovations, and enhancements. Situated close to the heart of Kathmandu, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is of paramount importance to Hindus. Access to the main gate of Pashupatinath Temple is reserved exclusively for Hindus, but as a visitor, you can appreciate its architectural grandeur from a distance. If you’re fortunate, you may witness a Hindu cremation ceremony taking place.
Bouddhanath
Bouddhanath, another remarkable stupa, stands as one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Buddhists. Resembling Swayambhunath with its white dome, this stupa is believed by some to contain the remains of Kasyapa Buddha (a Buddha incarnation), while others assert that it holds the relics of Lord Buddha himself. Adorning the base of the stupa are 108 small images of the Dhyani Buddha Amitabha, adding to its spiritual significance.
