Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing

Today’s sightseeing itinerary is a captivating exploration of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, offering a diverse array of Stupas, Temples, and Palaces. Rest assured that our expert city guide from TMG will meticulously plan the route to optimize your experience based on your interests.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Commencing from your hotel, Kathmandu Durbar Square is our first destination. This historic site, once a grand ceremonial venue and palace, now serves as a museum. Here, you’ll gain insights into the lifestyles of the royal families of yesteryears. As you explore its monuments, temples, and statues, you’ll marvel at the architectural prowess of 17th and 18th-century Nepalese artisans.

Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple)

Prepare for a unique experience as we ascend to the impressive heights of Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple. This ancient Stupa, dating back over 2,000 years, sits majestically atop a hill. Adorned with the captivating visage of Lord Buddha on all sides, its base showcases exquisite stonework featuring the 5 Dhyani Buddhas – Vairocana, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, Amoghasiddhi, and Aksobhya, each symbolizing Lord Buddha’s wisdom. The panoramic view of Kathmandu from this vantage point is truly breathtaking.

Pashupatinath

Our next stop is the venerable Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred site dedicated to Lord Shiva. Although ancient, this temple has been lovingly restored and maintained by Hindu Committees in Nepal. While only Hindus are allowed entry through the main gate, as a visitor, you can appreciate its architectural grandeur from a distance. If you’re fortunate, you may even witness a Hindu cremation ceremony, an integral part of the temple’s rituals.

Bouddhanath

Our final destination is Bouddhanath Stupa, another significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists. This imposing Stupa, with its iconic white dome, is often likened to Swayambhunath. It is believed to house the relics of Kasyapa Buddha (a Buddha incarnation), while some assert it contains the remains of Lord Buddha himself. Surrounding the Stupa’s base are 108 small images of the Dhyani Buddha Amitabha, adding to the spiritual ambiance of this sacred place.

Prepare to embark on a remarkable journey of cultural and spiritual discovery as we delve into the historical treasures of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
